Description of the medicinal properties of Dalmatian chamomile
Dalmatian chamomile is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the flower baskets of this plant for medicinal purposes. Such medicinal raw materials should be harvested throughout the entire flowering period.
The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of the toxic substances pyrethrins and cinerins, sesquiterpene lactones, fatty acids, essential oils, phytosterols and flavone glycosides in the aerial part of this plant and its resin baskets. Pyrethrins are esters of pyrethroline, ketoalcohol and chrysanthemum acid.
As for traditional medicine in many countries, this plant has become quite widespread. Traditional medicine uses ground flower baskets of Dalmatian chamomile as a very effective remedy designed to combat harmful insects.
Pyrethrum-based preparations of Dalmatian chamomile are used to kill flies, cockroaches, fleas, bedbugs, and various insects that are pests of agricultural crops and parasites of animals. Pyrethrum powder is used for this purpose, as is a special liquid called Flicid. An alcohol extract, also known as a pyrethrum extract, is also used for a similar purpose. Pyrethrum powder is made from very finely ground flower heads of Dalmatian chamomile.
Dalmatian chamomile also has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties. Notably, this plant has uterine tonic properties.
Preparations based on this plant are used to relieve migraines, menstrual pain, and headaches. In addition, Dalmatian chamomile is also used to treat rheumatism. Furthermore, some sources indicate that Dalmatian chamomile can be used for hysteria, fever, and arthritis. Along with other medicinal preparations, this plant is also used for hypertension. It should be noted that, depending on the severity of the condition, the positive effect will be noticeable quite quickly.
