Potentilla sericea is a perennial herbaceous plant with ascending stems that range in height from ten to twenty-five centimeters. The basal and lower stem leaves of this plant are quinquefoliate and long-petiolate, while the upper stem leaves are short-petiolate and trifoliate, and the uppermost leaves are sessile and simple. The upper leaves of Potentilla sericea are sparsely appressed and hairy, while the undersides are white with dense, appressed white hairs. The inflorescence of the silky cinquefoil is few-flowered and loosely semi-umbel-shaped. The flowers of this plant are borne on fairly long peduncles; they are large, with a diameter of approximately twenty-five millimeters. Notably, the inner sepals are slightly longer than the outer ones. The petals of the silky cinquefoil are large, twice as long as the sepals, and are colored golden-yellow. The peduncles and sepals of this plant are covered with more or less long, dense, and recumbent hairs.
The silky cinquefoil blooms from July to August. In the wild, this plant is found in Central Asia, the Angara-Sayan region of Western Siberia, the Urals, and the Volga-Kama region of European Russia. Silky cinquefoil prefers rocky and fine-grained slopes of exposed cliffs and steppes in the mid- and upper-mountain zones.
Description of the medicinal properties of silky cinquefoil
Silky cinquefoil has very valuable medicinal properties, and the entire above-ground part of this plant is recommended for medicinal purposes. These valuable medicinal properties are attributed to the presence of flavonoids, ellagic acid, and the glycosides quercetin, isorhamnetin, and kaempferol.
A decoction prepared from the silky cinquefoil herb is recommended for use for gingivitis, diarrhea, and also for various acute respiratory infections in the form of baths. It should be noted that silky cinquefoil is endowed with the ability to exhibit very significant thromboplastic and antibacterial activity.
For colitis, enterocolitis and diarrhea, it is recommended to use the following very effective remedy based on this plant: to prepare such a remedy, take one tablespoon of crushed silky cinquefoil rhizomes per three hundred milliliters of water. The resulting mixture should be boiled for about ten minutes over fairly low heat, and then the mixture is left to infuse for one hour and filtered very carefully. Take this healing remedy based on this plant three to four times a day, warm, one-third of a glass.
For acute respiratory infections, it is recommended to use the following remedy based on silky cinquefoil: to prepare such a healing remedy, you will need to take two to three tablespoons of crushed dry herbs of this plant in two glasses of boiling water. The resulting mixture is infused for two hours and then filtered very carefully. Take this healing mixture four times a day, one third of a glass.
