Schlumberger Buckley Buckley

Schlumbergera buckley is also known by the name Schlumbergera bucclei; in Latin, the name of this plant is Schlumbergera buckleyi. The plant is part of the family called cactaceae, in Latin the name of this family is: Cactaceae.

Description of growing features

As for the light regime, Schlumbergera Buckley will need to provide partial shade. Watering in the summer should also be moderate, and air humidity should be required at a fairly high level. The life form of Schlumbergera buckley is a succulent.

As for cultivation, the plant is quite often found on balconies and verandas, however, keeping the plant here is permissible only in the summer. In greenhouses and indoors, the plant can be grown throughout the rest of the year. However, it should be remembered that Schlumbergera buckley will not bloom in very dark conditions.

In cultivation, the maximum size of this plant can reach up to one meter in diameter. Every year in the spring, you will need to replant Schlumbergera buckley. To grow the plant, it is recommended to choose wide pots that will be in full accordance with the volume of the plant’s root system. There should be fairly good drainage at the bottom of such pots.

You will need a light and loose mixture to grow this plant: the lumps in diameter should be about half a centimeter or one centimeter. The main components of such a soil substrate are expanded clay, peat, sphagnum moss and soil, which contains a small content of organic matter. As for the degree of acidity, a slightly acidic soil is required.

It should also be remembered that under unfavorable conditions the plant will shed its buds quite easily. Old specimens of Schlumbergera buckley, which are rather poorly formed and endowed with a woody trunk and long, unbranched shoots, will bloom extremely sparingly, and will also lose their decorative effect. It is important to note that this plant can be very easily affected by red mite: for this reason, regular preventative treatments with acaricides will be required.

During the dormant period, you will need to provide the plant with a temperature of about fifteen to twenty degrees. Watering and air humidity should be kept moderate throughout the rest period. The rest period occurs from September to January or February.

Reproduction of Schlumbergera buckley occurs through cuttings, which consist of one to three segments. The cuttings should be cut at the very base of the segment, after which they are dried for two to five days, and then rooted in moist soil.

It is important to remember that this plant requires regular maintenance of a humid atmosphere. However, at the same time, stagnation of moisture is unacceptable, especially when keeping the plant cool. For the favorable development of Schlumbergera buckley, it will be necessary to spray the plant frequently, and from time to time it is necessary to wash the plant under running warm water.

For the plant, it is very important to apply root and foliar fertilizing, which should be done using a weakly concentrated solution consisting of complex mineral fertilizers. From time to time, the use of organic fertilizers is also acceptable. It is recommended to trim very long shoots at the base of the segment in order to form the shape of the plant itself. During the period of budding of Schlumberger Buckley, it is not permissible to change the growing conditions of this plant in any way: you cannot even move the plant from place to place.
