Adromishus

Adromishus (lat. Adromischus) is an ornamental foliage succulent plant belonging to the Crassulaceae family.
The name of this plant is based on two Greek words: hadros and mischos – translated into Russian this means “thick-stemmed”.
Description
Adromishus is a low-growing (on average its height is three to five centimeters) succulent plant, endowed with straight, long and very strong peduncles. Its short, recumbent stems are quite densely covered with aerial roots of reddish shades, and its succulent leaves almost always have a bizarre variegated color, in addition, sometimes the leaves of this plant are pubescent. As for the shape of the leaves, it, as a rule, can be either triangular or round.
The spike-shaped inflorescences of Adromishus are formed by five-petaled flowers merging into narrow tubes. And the flowers of this plant are usually pink or white. In Moscow conditions, even when planted in winter gardens, adromishus blooms extremely rarely, only in truly sunny summers, and at home it is possible to achieve its flowering even less often.
Where does it grow
Under natural conditions, Adromishus is most often found in Namibia and South Africa.
Usage
Adromishus is often used as an ornamental plant – it can make almost any interior more original! This plant is also ideal for planting in winter gardens.
Growing and care
Adromishus is good because it is very unpretentious, extremely easy to care for and is extremely rarely affected by pests. It grows quite slowly, so in order for adromishus to fully develop, it is important to ensure that it is planted in a nutritious and well-permeable soil mixture without stagnant moisture. A mineral substrate completely devoid of organics is excellent for growing this beauty. And it is better to take pots for growing this succulent that are not too large.
Throughout the growing season, watering of adromishus should be regular, and in winter it is limited to only meager watering. Ideally, it is watered only after the substrate is completely dry. Adromishus is not afraid of drying out, but excessive waterlogging can easily provoke its death. In addition, during the period of active growth, this plant needs to be provided with maximum lighting – the fact is that in some varieties of adromishus, a bizarre speckled contrasting pattern can appear only when exposed to bright sun. As for the temperature regime, this green pet will feel best at temperatures from twenty to thirty-five degrees, and it prefers to winter at ten to fifteen degrees. But the beautiful Adromishus will not survive frosts, even if they are very short-lived.
Adromishus is very partial to fresh air and ventilation – of course, only in the hot summer. In winter, it is definitely not worth ventilating it, and placing it in a draft is not recommended throughout the year.
Succulents are fertilized very rarely, feeding them with mineral fertilizers taken in low concentrations. You don’t have to fertilize at all – this will in no way affect the quality of adromischus growth.
Young plants should be replanted every year, and older specimens – a little less often. It is important to take into account that after replanting the adromischus is not watered for several days.
This unusual succulent reproduces both by seeds and leaves – whichever is more convenient.
