Dracaena marginata

Dracaena marginata is a member of the Dracaena family, and its Latin name is Dracaena marginata.
The family name itself is Dracaenaceae.
Care Instructions
Dracaena marginata requires one of three light conditions: full sun, shade, or even partial shade. Throughout the summer, moderate humidity is required, and watering should be moderate. Dracaena marginata is an evergreen tree.
This plant is recommended for winter gardens, hotel lobbies, and restaurant dining rooms. Dracaena marginata is also often found in smaller rooms and spacious living rooms. When grown in greenhouses, the plant can reach a height of up to ten meters, while its maximum height indoors can range from one to three meters.
It’s important to remember that the plant will require repotting: young specimens should be repotted approximately once every one or two years, mature plants require repotting less frequently, and large Dracaena marginata are almost never repotted. Particularly large specimens will only need to have the top layer of the substrate replaced annually with fresh soil; approximately five centimeters should be replaced. This plant’s root system is very vigorous and develops quite quickly, so it’s best to choose tall, but not too wide, pots. When repotting, it’s recommended to increase the proportion of turf soil or decrease the proportion of sand, which will make the substrate heavier. However, the root ball of this plant should be preserved. As for the soil mixture itself, you’ll need one part turf soil and one part sand, and two parts leaf mold. The acidity of the soil of the marginated dracaena should be slightly acidic.
As for possible problems with growing this plant, it should be noted that sometimes brown spots may appear on the leaves due to the fact that the plant was watered and sprayed with very hard water. If the soil is waterlogged or overdried, and the air humidity is less than sixty centimeters, then the leaves of dracaena fringe may not only turn yellow, but sometimes even fall off. In the event that the plant is located in a room where the air humidity is below fifteen degrees, the edges of the leaves of dracaena bordered may curl.
Dracaena fringe will require support, which is due to the fact that its trunk is extremely unstable. Sometimes when growing dracaena fringe in winter gardens or greenhouses, the plant can reach a height of about ten meters.
Throughout the entire dormant period, the plant should be provided with the following optimal temperature: from fifteen to twenty degrees Celsius. Air humidity should be moderate, and watering should not be very abundant. In indoor conditions, such a period of rest will be forced and will last from October to February: such a period of rest occurs due to the fact that the air humidity is low and the illumination is also reduced.
Reproduction of dracaena fringe occurs through segments of stems, as well as through air layering and apical cuttings.
In order for the plant to develop well, you will need to ensure that the soil cover always remains moist. In this case, air humidity should always be maintained at around seventy to seventy-five percent. Those varieties that are variegated need to be placed in bright, indirect light.
