Description of the round-leaved grass

Volodushka rotundifolia is an annual herbaceous plant, the height of which will be about fifteen to seventy-five centimeters. The color of such a plant will be bluish-green, and its stem is straight and round. In this case, most often the upper part of this stem is branched, while the lower stems are oblong-elliptical in shape. Umbrellas are quite small and will have long, thick and uneven arms. One umbrella can have about eight to twelve flowers, which are on short stalks, and the petals are colored yellow. The fruits of the round-leaved tree can be either oblong-ovoid or elliptical in shape, and they are dark brown in color, with a length of about two and a half to three millimeters. This plant blooms from May to June, while the fruits ripen in July-August.

This plant is found throughout the European part of Russia, as well as in the Far East, the Caucasus, Moldova, the Baltic states, and also in Western Siberia: in the Irtysh and Ob regions. For growth, this plant prefers fallow lands, boundaries, dry open slopes, roadsides; as a weed, the round-leaved grass can be found on plantations and crops.

Description of the medicinal properties of Volus rotundifolia

For medicinal purposes, the herb of this plant has become quite widespread: leaves, flowers and stems. Quercetin, rutin, falcarine, and quercetin glucoside were found in the roots of Volus rotundifolia. The grass of this plant contains flavonoids, coumarin, saponins and phenolic compounds. The stems of the plant contain narcissin, rutin, quercetin and isorhamnetin. It is noteworthy that the leaves contain triterpenoids and vitamin C, while the flowers, in turn, contain quercetin, rutin, narcissin, isoquercitrin and vitamin C. The fruits of the round-leaved plant contain saponins, tannins, essential oil and fatty oil, as well as its and glycerides of saturated acids, linoleic and oleic acid.

It should be noted that Bupleurum rotundifolia is characterized by valuable choleretic, wound-healing, antipyretic, astringent, and lactogenic properties. An infusion made from this plant’s herb is often used for purulent wounds, arthralgia, and various gynecological conditions.

The fruits were previously used to make a preparation with choleretic properties and also have a normalizing effect on the blood enzyme system in experimental hepatitis. Furthermore, this preparation will also help normalize the liver’s impaired bile secretion function.

For diarrhea, cholecystitis, and various colds, the following remedy is recommended as a lactogenic agent: to prepare it, take one tablespoon of crushed dried herb per cup of boiling water. Let the resulting mixture steep for two to three hours, then strain thoroughly. Take this remedy approximately half an hour before meals, one-third of a cup three times daily. For cholecystitis, the following remedy is recommended: add fifteen grams of crushed dried roots to a glass of water. Then simmer the mixture over low heat for about six to eight minutes, then let it steep for an hour and strain. Take this remedy three times a day, one hundred milliliters at a time.
