Silver cinquefoil is one of the plants of the family called Rosaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Potentilla argentea L.

As for the name of the silver cinquefoil family itself, in Latin it will be: Rosaceae Juss.

Description of silver cinquefoil

Silver cinquefoil is known under numerous popular names: sparrow family, gamza, mad grass, hogweed, throat grass, throat grass, gourlya, grabkil, fiba grass, oak grass, toad grass, ovary root, mola, neprosypka, wormhole, worm. Silver cinquefoil is a perennial herbaceous plant, one centimeter in height. This plant will be endowed with a rather thick rhizome. The stems of silver cinquefoil are pubescent and branched, they can be either erect or erect. The basal and lower stem leaves of this plant will be endowed with a few close pairs of leaves.

The leaves of this plant will be tripartite, pubescent, on top they are colored green, while the edges of the leaflets are incised and finger-shaped and curved down. Silver cinquefoil flowers are small and will be collected in multi-flowered corymbose-paniculate inflorescences. The undercup leaves of this plant will be oblong-linear, they are almost equal to the ovoid sepals, and the length of the petals will be about four millimeters. At the same time, such silver cinquefoil petals turn out to be slightly longer than the sepals, and they will be colored in light yellow tones. It is noteworthy that the flowering of this plant lasts throughout the summer.

Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Ukraine, the Caucasus, Belarus, Siberia and the European part of Russia. For growth, silver cinquefoil prefers places along roadsides, meadows, fields, forest edges, pine forests, slopes, deserts, fallow lands and shrubs.

Description of the medicinal properties of silver cinquefoil

Silver cinquefoil is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. The term grass includes the leaves, flowers and stems of silverweed. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the presence in the herb of this plant of a very significant amount of tannins, essential oil, flavonoids, vitamin C, trace elements, the triterpenoid termenthol and the following phenolcarboxylic acids: coumaric and ferulic.

Silver cinquefoil is endowed with very valuable astringent, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hypotensive, expectorant, wound-healing, hemostatic and anthelmintic effects.

As for traditional medicine, a decoction and aqueous infusion of the herb of this plant is quite widespread here. Such healing agents are recommended to be taken orally for enterocolitis, colitis, diarrhea, gastritis, enteritis, cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary, uterine and hemorrhoidal bleeding, as well as for hematuria, eczematous dermatitis, jaundice, gout and rheumatism.

Externally, this plant is used in the form of compresses for weeping eczema, wounds, furunculosis, hemorrhoids, and also for gargling for various throat diseases, abrasions, ulcerative stomatitis, bleeding gums and ulcerative gingivitis. It is noteworthy that fresh crushed silver cinquefoil leaves are recommended to be applied to purulent cuts and wounds, which is done in order to speed up their healing. It is also recommended to apply the boiled herb of this plant to the throat for various colds.
