Ligusticum mutellina is one of the plants of the family called Umbellaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Ligusticum mutellina (L.) Crantz (Meum mutcllina (L.) Gaerth., Mutellina purpurea (Poir.) Thell.).

As for the name of the Ligusticum mutellinaceae family itself, in Latin it will be: Apiaceae Lindl. (Umbelliforae Juss.).

Description of Ligusticum mutellinum

Ligusticum mutellinum is a perennial herbaceous plant whose height will vary between ten and twenty-five centimeters. Such a plant will be endowed with a vertical or ascending root, the thickness of which will be about four millimeters. The stem of this plant can be either ascending at the very base or straight. Such a stem is bare, simple or slightly branched at the top, and also thinly ribbed. The basal leaves of Ligusticum mutellinum are glabrous, on the petioles they will be almost equal to the blade, while the remaining leaves are sessile. The umbrellas of this plant are endowed with seven to ten bare rays, their length in diameter will be about one and a half to two and a half centimeters, and there is no involucre. The petals of Ligusticum mutellinum are pink in color. The fruit of this plant can be either oblong-ovoid or elliptical, and in addition it will be slightly compressed from the sides.

Ligusticum mutellinum blooms in July. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in the Carpathians in Ukraine. For growth, this plant prefers forest edges, alpine and subalpine meadows, as well as thickets of bushes at an altitude of approximately two thousand meters above sea level.

Description of the medicinal properties of ligusticum mutellinum

Ligusticum mutellinum is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the leaves and roots of this plant for medicinal purposes.

The presence of such healing properties should be explained by the content of phthalides in the roots of this plant, while the leaves contain quercetin and luteolin 7-glucoside, and the fruits contain essential oil.

In folk medicine, a decoction made from the bark of Ligusticum mutellina is quite common. This remedy is recommended for various kidney, liver, and bladder ailments, as well as flatulence, intoxication, and acute respiratory infections. It is also used to make plasters. Fresh leaves of this plant can also be used topically as a very effective wound-healing agent, while dried Ligusticum mutellina leaves are used as a tea substitute.

To prepare a highly effective remedy based on this plant, you will need approximately twelve grams of dried, crushed Ligusticum mutellina roots per two hundred and fifty milliliters of water. The resulting mixture is recommended to be simmered for about five to six minutes over fairly low heat, then left to steep for two hours. Afterwards, this medicinal mixture based on Ligusticum mutellina should be carefully strained. Take the resulting medicinal remedy based on this plant three times daily before meals, one-quarter cup at a time. It’s important to note that to achieve maximum effectiveness, it’s recommended to strictly follow all the instructions for preparing this remedy based on Ligusticum mutellina and also to follow all the instructions for taking it.
