Lesser motherwort is one of the plants of the family called Lamiaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Leonurus deminutus V. Krecz.

As for the name of the motherwort family itself, in Latin it will be: Lamiaceae Lindl. (Labiatae Juss.).

Description of motherwort

Lesser motherwort is a perennial or biennial herbaceous plant, the height of which will vary between thirty and seventy centimeters. At the base of the stems, this plant will be endowed with a reddish tint, and the color is grayish. The rhizome of the small motherwort will be woody, the leaves are bare and five-dissected, their length and width will be about four to five centimeters. The inflorescence will be rather short, it is endowed with closely spaced whorls, the wide-pointed calyx can be colored in both dark green and reddish tones, and its length is approximately five to six millimeters. The lower two teeth are reflexed, the corolla is painted in pale purple tones, its length reaches eight millimeters, and the lower lip will be sparsely hairy.

Lesser motherwort blooms from June to July.

Description of the medicinal properties of motherwort

Lesser motherwort is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. The concept of grass includes stems, leaves and flowers. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of flavonoids, alkaloids, cardenolides and tannins in the aerial part of motherwort.

It is noteworthy that the experiment proved that an infusion prepared from the herb of this plant has the ability to exhibit a short-term vasoconstrictor effect. Lesser motherwort extract has anticonvulsant and sedative effects.

As for traditional medicine, here this plant is quite widespread. An infusion prepared from the flowers and leaves of motherwort is indicated for use against dysentery, typhoid fever, diarrhea and vomiting, and is also used as an antipyretic, and for food poisoning it is considered a detoxifying agent.

In Tibetan medicine, infusions and decoctions prepared from the herb Leonurus minor are used for acute colitis and intoxication. As part of complex preparations, such elements of this plant are used for gastritis, peptic ulcer of the duodenum and stomach.

For angina pectoris, it is recommended to use the following very effective healing remedy based on motherwort: to prepare such a medicine, you will need to take two tablespoons of crushed dry herb, motherwort, in half a liter of boiling water. The resulting medicinal mixture should be infused for about two hours, after which this mixture should be filtered very carefully. Take this healing remedy based on motherwort three to four times a day, one-third of a glass.

For diarrhea, you should use a very effective healing remedy based on motherwort: to prepare such a healing remedy, you will need to take one tablespoon of the flowers and leaves of this plant per glass of boiling water. The resulting medicinal mixture should be infused for about two hours, and then this mixture is filtered very carefully. Take this remedy based on motherwort three to four times a day, one-third of a glass: this remedy turns out to be very effective if used correctly.
