Amur lilac is one of the plants of the family called Oliveaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Syringa amurensis Rupr.

Description of Amur lilac

Amur lilac is a shrub or small tree, the height of which will range between ten and fifteen meters, and the diameter is about twenty to twenty-five centimeters. The bark of this plant is painted in dark gray or brown tones, and is also endowed with white transverse lentils. The branches of Amur lilac, in turn, have falsely dichotomous branching. The leaves of this plant will be oval in shape, either oval-lanceolate or broadly oval, they are also smooth, entire, dense and long-pointed, such leaves are colored green on top, and paler below. The inflorescences of Amur lilac are almost terminal and quite large, they reach twenty centimeters in diameter, and their length is twenty to twenty-five centimeters. The flowers of this plant are white or slightly creamy, they are on very short stalks and are small in size. These flowers are about five to six millimeters in diameter, and they are also endowed with a very strong smell. The calyx of this plant will be short and endowed with four teeth, and the corolla, in turn, has four blunt lobes. The fruit of the Amur lilac is an oblong and blunt two-locular capsule, endowed with white dots, and the length of which will be about two to two and a half centimeters. The seeds of this plant will be winged and flat, they are endowed with a very pleasant and rather strong smell.

The flowering of this plant will last for about two weeks. It is noteworthy that Amur lilac is one of the most drought-resistant and frost-resistant varieties of lilacs. It should be noted that Amur lilac has the ability to easily tolerate urban conditions. Reproduction of this plant occurs through green cuttings and seeds, however, the Amur lilac will grow slowly for the first two years.

The flowering of Amur lilac occurs from the end of June to the beginning of July, while the ripening of seeds will occur in August. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in the Far East: the Kuril Islands, Primorye and Amur region. For growth, Amur lilac prefers forests on slopes, places in rocks, bushes along rivers and streams, as well as mixed forests. It is noteworthy that Amur lilac is a very ornamental plant, for this reason the plant is recommended for landscaping in the Far East.

Description of the medicinal properties of Amur lilac

Amur lilac is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the inflorescences and bark of this plant for medicinal purposes. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of coumarins and flavonoids in the branches of this plant, while the leaves contain coumarins and flavonoids, and the flowers contain alkaloids and 3-rhamnosylglucoside kaempferol.

It should be noted that the Nanais use a tincture prepared with vodka based on the bark of the Amur lilac as a very effective tonic. In Japan, an infusion based on the inflorescences of this plant is used for gonorrhea and as a diuretic. The Nanais use a similar medicine for tuberculosis and as a tonic.
