Coastal orach is a member of the Chenopodiaceae family. Its Latin name is Atriplex littoralis L.

Description of Coastal Orach

Coastal orach is an annual herbaceous plant, reaching heights between twenty-five and seventy-five centimeters. This plant has a straight stem. Its leaves are linear-lanceolate, alternate, and can be serrated or entire. The flowers of coastal orach are borne in rather long, hairy, and interrupted spikes. These spikes, in turn, form a paniculate inflorescence. The male flowers of this plant are pentamerous, while the female flowers are enclosed in two. Coastal orach blooms from July to September. In the wild, this plant is found in the Dnieper region of Ukraine, Moldova, the East Caucasus and Ciscaucasian regions of the Caucasus, the Irtysh and Upper Tobolsk regions of Western Siberia, the Kuril Islands, the Amur region, Primorye, and Sakhalin in the Far East, as well as in the following regions of European Russia: the Lower Don, Lower Volga, Trans-Volga, and Black Sea regions. Coastal orach prefers terraces, river cliffs, seashores, lakeshores, salt marshes, and can sometimes be found as a weed.

Description of the medicinal properties of coastal orach

Coastal orach has valuable medicinal properties, and the seeds and herb are recommended for medicinal purposes. The herb includes the flowers, stems, and leaves of coastal orach. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of beta-acetates and alkaloids in this plant.

As for the Caucasus, an infusion prepared from the coastal quinoa herb has become widespread on its territory. This decoction is used as a very valuable diuretic. A decoction of the seeds of this plant is used as a laxative and emetic, which are also characterized by a very wide degree of effectiveness when used correctly. In the spring, coastal quinoa leaves can be used as a spinach substitute for cooking cabbage soup and main courses, as well as for pickling and marinades.

As a diuretic, it is recommended to use the following remedy based on this plant: to prepare such a very effective remedy, you will need to take two tablespoons of crushed quinoa herb per two cups of boiling water. The resulting healing mixture should be infused for one hour, after which this mixture is filtered very carefully. Take the resulting medicine based on coastal quinoa three times a day, one-third of a glass before meals.

As a laxative, it is recommended to use the following remedy based on coastal quinoa: to prepare such a remedy, it is recommended to take one teaspoon of the seeds of this plant per half a liter of water. Then the resulting healing mixture should be boiled for about three to four minutes, left to infuse for one hour and, finally, filtered very thoroughly. Take this healing remedy based on coastal quinoa, one or two tablespoons before meals, once or twice a day. It should be noted that this medicine is very effective when used correctly.
