Columnaea, with its flowing shoots, is somewhat reminiscent of flamingos. They were named after the Italian biologist Colonni. Columneya is a graceful, sophisticated plant, the green shoots of which reach one meter in length and fall downwards. The foliage is dark green or purple. The flowers are large, long, pointed. Colemnea flowers are painted in all shades of red and orange.

With proper care, the flower plant pleases with its flowering several times a year. They are light-loving, but in hot weather it is necessary to create conditions for protection from direct ultraviolet rays. The required temperature climate for active development and growth of the flower is 22-26 degrees. The plant needs to be given a warm shower, then the foliage needs to be protected from sunlight. Watering is carried out only after the soil has completely dried. The water intended for this purpose must be settled and not cold.

During the growing season, Columna requires the application of mineral fertilizers once every seven days. During the winter season, flowers should be kept in a room where the temperature is maintained at 20 degrees. During this period it is excluded active watering , and exclude the application of fertilizers. These measures are necessary for the formation of flower buds. Watering is carried out in the pan, and excess moisture is removed. The water used to water the plants should have a temperature slightly above room temperature. The plant is heat-loving and afraid of drafts and cold. To develop the root system, in winter they use heated floors in the room where the flowers are located.

Columnea care

After winter, the columna should be cut off old shoots and replanted in new soil. There is no need to turn or rearrange the flowerpot with the plant too often. This will lead to the fact that the columnar tree will not be able to bloom for a long time. Saintpaulia soil is ideal for use as a soil; the possibility of lime getting into the soil or with water should be excluded. Flowerpots for plants should be spacious and small.

They reproduce by upper or stem shoots in the spring. Shoots that have grown to 8 cm are cut off, sprinkled with activated carbon and placed in water. When the roots of the plant grow two centimeters, they are planted in small containers and then watered. In order for a lush crown to form, several stems are planted in a container, and after some time they are pinched. This will help the formation of new shoots. Young flowers begin to bloom after eight to nine months. Columnaea looks great in pots that are suspended from the ceiling or attached to the wall.
