Irga roundifolia is a shrub whose height reaches two meters. Such a plant will be endowed with ovoid serrated leaves and flowers painted in white tones. Such flowers are collected in corymbose racemes. The fruits of this plant are dark red and quite juicy berries, the size of which is approximately equal to a pea. Flowering of the round-leaved serviceberry occurs in the month of May, and the ripening of the fruits occurs from July to August. Under natural conditions, the plant is found in the Crimea and the Caucasus. Iga roundifolia is cultivated in Ukraine and in the south of the European part of Russia.

Description of the medicinal properties of serviceberry roundifolia

Irga roundifolia is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use leaves, shrub bark and berries for medicinal purposes.

It is recommended to harvest the fruits of this plant without stalks. Such stalks should be used fresh or dried. At the same time, it is recommended to dry the stalks in fruit and berry dryers. The leaves should be harvested in May-June, and the bark should be harvested in the autumn. The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content of sugar, organic acids, coumarins, tannins, flavonoids, beta-sitosterol, ascorbic acid, B vitamins, provitamin A and the following microelements in this plant: cobalt, lead and copper. The bark and leaves of serviceberry roundifolia contain a large amount of tannins. Actually, thanks to the presence of vitamins, the fruits of this plant can be used for the prevention and treatment of both hypo- and avitaminosis B and C. In addition, such fruits can also be used for the prevention of atherosclerosis, which is due to the presence of beta-sitosterol in the plant, which is a cholesterol antagonist.

As for traditional medicine, the juice of the fruit of the round-leaved serviceberry is widely used here. This product is used for rinsing with sore throat. Sometimes medicinal astringent drinks are also prepared, which consist of a mixture of the juice of this plant with the juices of pears and apples. Such juices are recommended for use for various gastrointestinal diseases: including enterocolitis, colitis and gastritis.

For all of these diseases, it is recommended to use decoctions consisting of one part of the leaves and ten parts of the bark of the bush. Jams, compotes, juices, jam, jelly, marshmallows and even wine are prepared from the berries of this plant.

Another valuable healing remedy is this: to prepare this remedy, take twenty grams of dry crushed leaves of this plant per glass of water. The resulting mixture should be boiled for five to six minutes over fairly low heat in a water bath, after which the mixture is infused for one hour and then filtered very carefully. Take this remedy one-third or one-fourth of a glass three times a day before meals.

It is also possible to prepare such a decoction in the following way: for preparation, take twenty grams of dry crushed herb per two hundred milliliters of water. This mixture should be boiled in a water bath for ten to twelve minutes, after which the mixture is infused for an hour and filtered thoroughly. It is recommended to take this remedy one-fourth or one-third of a glass three times a day.
