The basal leaves of the palmate buttercup are long-petiolate, with a blade more or less ovate in outline, and can also be broadly ovate. These leaves are typically deeply 7-15-palmately divided. The cauline leaves of this plant are deeply 3-5-palmately divided, almost to the base, sessile at the base, and have a widened, short sheath. The flowers of the palmate buttercup are approximately two to two and a half centimeters in diameter, obovate at the base, with five to seven flowers, and five fuzzy, blunt sepals. The fruit of this plant is two millimeters long, slightly convex, rounded-ovate, and has a very short, curved beak.

The flowering period of the palmate buttercup begins in June and ends in July. In the wild, this plant is found in Central Asia and the Altai region of Western Siberia. It prefers saline meadows, cliffs, and dry meadow and steppe slopes, primarily in the upper mountain zone.
