Serpukha crowned is known under numerous popular names: hare’s feet, bear’s toes, cow’s tongues, dope, gourd, green, Christ’s rib, flower-sickle and snot. Crowned sickle is a large perennial herbaceous plant, endowed with a rather powerful horizontal woody rhizome and numerous cord-like roots. The stem of this plant is knotty, erect, grooved and bare, while in the upper part it will be branched. The height of such a stem varies between thirty-five and one hundred and fifty centimeters. The basal and lower stem leaves of Serpus crown are long-petiolate, while all other leaves will be alternate, sessile and glabrous. Sometimes such leaves can also be sparsely hairy along the veins, they are colored in reddish or green tones, but sometimes they can also be bluish below. In addition, the leaves of the crowned sickle can be either elliptical or oblong; they are unpaired pinnately dissected into ovate or ovate-lanceolate lobes. The length of the leaves of this plant is about three to twelve centimeters, the width is one to five centimeters. The flower baskets of crowned sickle will be quite large, ovoid and most often not numerous; they are located at the tops of the stems and the ends of the lateral branches on very noticeable peduncles; such flower baskets also form a corymbose inflorescence. The flowers of the crowned sickle are painted in lilac-purple tones, they are bisexual, while some marginal flowers can be female, they can either be endowed with underdeveloped stamens or not. The length of the corolla is about twenty to twenty-seven millimeters, and the length of the tube is approximately fifteen millimeters. The column will be slightly larger than the rim, in turn, such a column is endowed with two long grooved and linear blades. The fruits of Serpuca crown are oblong achenes, which are finely grooved, glabrous and have a brownish color.

This plant blooms from July to August. Under natural conditions, crowned serpuha is found in Central Asia, the southern half of the European part of Russia, Siberia, Kazakhstan, the Far East and Ukraine.

Description of the medicinal properties of crowned serpuha

Crowned serpuha is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. The concept of grass includes stems, leaves and flowers.

It should be noted that the chemical composition of this plant has not yet been fully studied. The composition of the herb crowned serpus contains ascorbic acid, traces of alkaloids and the flavonoid apiin.

Healing products based on this plant are used exclusively in folk medicine. Here, infusions and decoctions based on Serpuca crown are used as very effective sedatives, choleretic, astringent, antifever, antiemetic and anti-inflammatory agents. An infusion of the herb is indicated for use for diarrhea and jaundice; an infusion of the herb or a decoction of the rhizomes is used for rinsing with laryngitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis.
