The tree plier is one of the plants of the family called Euonymaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Celastrus orbiculata Thunb.

As for the name of the tree pliers family itself, in Latin it will be: Celastraceae R. Br. This plant is also known as red bladder.

Description of wood pliers

Tree pliers is either a weakly climbing or creeping shrub, the length of which will be about two and a half to five meters, and the diameter will not exceed ten centimeters. The plant is endowed with brownish bark. The leaves of the tree pliers are obovate-elliptic or round-elliptical, sometimes they can be round. The length of the leaves will be about two to three centimeters, and the width will be one and a half to two centimeters. The leaves of this plant are leathery, large crenate-serrate, and their color will be yellow-olive.

The stipules will not be spiny and ciliated, the inflorescences of this plant are simple and umbellate, with two to seven flowers. Tree-nose flowers are small, they are endowed with greenish petals, the boxes will be almost spherical, their diameter will be about four to six millimeters. The seeds of this plant are endowed with an orange wrinkled roof. Under natural conditions, wood pliers can be found in the Far East: in the Kuril Islands, in the south of Sakhalin and in the Amur region.

This plant can have two types of shoots: either long, sparsely leafy and curly, or straight and densely leafy. The bark on the old stems of this plant is dark, it is endowed with deep longitudinal cracks. Young shoots are first colored green, then they change color to orange-red or brownish-brown. The leaves will be very dense and they will have pointed tips, their length and width are approximately equal. It is noteworthy that in the shade the plant’s leaves will be larger in size. The leaves of the tree pliers are painted in bright red tones.

This plant is dioecious. The flowering of wood pliers will last for one and a half to two weeks and occurs in the month of June.

The plant grows in thickets on the seashore and along rivers that flow into the sea. The plant also grows on rocky rocky slopes, among shrubs and in sand and pebble deposits.

Description of the medicinal properties of wood pliers

The bittersweet plant has valuable medicinal properties, and its roots are recommended for medicinal purposes. These valuable medicinal properties are due to the plant’s tannins and dulcitol content, while the bittersweet leaves contain sucrose, catechins, flavonoids, and dulcitol. The seeds of this plant contain fatty oil and sesquiterpenoids. Notably, this plant exhibits antiviral activity.

In folk medicine, a decoction of the roots is used to improve blood circulation, and externally, the plant can be applied to purulent wounds and used as a poultice.

For poultices for purulent wounds and for washing, the following bittersweet-based remedy is recommended: to prepare this remedy, use eight grams of roots per glass of water. It is recommended to let the resulting mixture simmer for five to six minutes, then steep it for two hours, and then strain thoroughly. This bittersweet-based remedy for cardiovascular insufficiency is taken one to two tablespoons three times daily.
