Description of water pine

Water pine is a perennial herbaceous rhizomatous plant, endowed with erect stems, the height of which will fluctuate between fifteen and one hundred and twenty centimeters. It is noteworthy that most often such a plant is half immersed in water. The emergent leaves of water pine, eight to sixteen in number, are arranged in close whorls; such leaves can be either linear-lanceolate or lanceolate. The length of such leaves is equal to one to four centimeters, while the width will be equal to half a centimeter. The underwater leaves of water pine are located in spaced whorls, they will be deflected downwards, they are softer and rather thin, and the length of such leaves can reach eight centimeters. The flowers of this plant will be quite small in size, they are colored green and are located in the axils of the emergent leaves. The calyx of the water pine is rudimentary, and the corolla will be absent and there will be only one stamen. The fruit of this plant is drupe-like in shape and has a hard stone.

Water pine blooms from July to August. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Central Asia, the Far East, Belarus, Ukraine, the European part of Russia, Western and Eastern Siberia. For growth, this plant prefers swamps, standing and shallow reservoirs, the banks of lakes and rivers, and also slowly flowing waters.

Description of the medicinal properties of water pine

Water pine is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the stems and leaves of this plant for medicinal purposes. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of alkaloids in this plant, the flavonoid kaempferol, scopoletin, coumarin, as well as ferulic and caffeic phenolcarboxylic acids. The stems, in turn, will contain the following anthocyanins: 3-monoglucoside and 3-monogalactoside cyanidin. Water pine leaves will contain coumarins, caffeinated phenolcarboxylic acid, as well as flavonoids in kaempferol hydrolysate.

This plant is endowed with very effective anti-inflammatory, astringent and wound-healing properties. For diarrhea, it is recommended to use a water infusion based on water pine. A decoction prepared from the herb of this plant is indicated for use as an antipyretic. As for use as an external remedy, leaves and fresh crushed stems of water pine are used for this purpose. Such beneficial elements of this plant should be applied to bruised areas, as well as malignant and benign tumors.

For diarrhea, it is recommended to use the following very effective healing remedy based on this plant: to prepare such a healing remedy, you will need to take one tablespoon of fresh crushed stems with leaves of water pine per one full glass of boiling water. The resulting healing mixture should first be left to infuse for about two hours, after which such a medicinal mixture based on this plant must be filtered very carefully. Take the resulting medicine based on water pine three to four times a day, regardless of food intake, one tablespoon.
