Description of Kochia broom

Kochia broom is an annual herbaceous plant, the height of which will vary between fifteen and one hundred and fifty centimeters. Such a plant will be painted in green tones; in autumn it will begin to turn red. Kochia broom is a highly branched plant, endowed with alternate leaves, which will be linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, and also flat. The inflorescence of this plant will be spaced-spike-shaped. Quite inconspicuous flowers are found one or two in the axils of the bracts themselves.

Flowering of Kochia broom occurs from July to October. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in the European part of Russia, the Far East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Belarus, the Verkhnetobolsky region of Western Siberia, the Carpathians and the Dnieper region of Ukraine. For growth, the plant prefers garbage places, salt marshes, sand, vegetable gardens, places along roads, at an altitude of up to a thousand meters above sea level. As a weed, Kochia broom is found in gardens, and it can grow either in groups or singly.

Description of the medicinal properties of Kochia broom

Kochia broom is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the seeds, fruits and herbs of this plant for medicinal purposes. The term grass includes stems, flowers and leaves.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of coumarins, flavonoids and organic acids in the roots of this plant. The stems contain saponins, coumarins and organic acids, and the leaves contain tannins and saponins. The flowering tops of this plant contain betaine, and the fruits contain tannins, saponins and fatty oil.

An infusion prepared from the herb of this plant is used as a diaphoretic, tonic, cardiotonic, diuretic and laxative, and is also used for rheumatism, dropsy, rabid dog bites and urolithiasis.

Decoction and powder of the Kochia broom herb are recommended for use for cystitis and gonorrhea, and also as a remedy that will stimulate cardiac activity. An infusion of this plant will cause stimulating breathing and a hypotensive effect.

A decoction prepared from the fruits of Kochia broomata should be used as a very valuable diuretic for diseases of the bladder, gonorrhea, edema of the heart and kidneys, diseases of the urinary tract, eczema, and erysipelas of the skin of the face and body.

As for Chinese medicine, the leaves, fruits and leafy tops of this plant are quite widespread. Such elements will be included in ointments that are intended to treat certain diseases of both nails and skin. The decoction, as well as the powder of Kochia broom seeds, should be used as a tonic, cardiac stimulant and as a diuretic. It should be noted that the fresh leaves of this plant are used to prepare various soups.

Kochia broom grass serves as food for silkworm caterpillars and livestock, and also represents a raw material intended for the production of soda. The stems of this plant are used for brooms and brushes.

This plant is endowed with decorative forms and is used in cultivation as a spring annual.
