Description of common burdock

Common agrimony is known by many common names, including dog burr, agrimony, and thorn. Common burdock is a perennial herbaceous plant, endowed with a simple or slightly branched, erect and pubescent stem, the height of which, in turn, will fluctuate between thirty and one hundred and twenty centimeters. The leaves of this plant are intermittently pinnate, being smooth on top and pubescent and pale below. The flowers of the common agrimony are painted in dark yellow tones; they will be quite small in size, pubescent and collected at the very tops of the stems in rather loose and spicate racemes. The fruit of this plant is a tenacious, bristly achene. It is noteworthy that this plant is a very valuable honey plant.

Common burdock blooms during the period from June to July. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Russia, the Carpathians, Polesie and Moldova. For growth, this plant prefers meadows, forests and places among bushes.

Description of the medicinal properties of common burdock

The common burdock is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and the roots and herbs of this plant should be used for medicinal purposes. The term grass includes flowers, stems and leaves. It is recommended to harvest the grass throughout the entire flowering period of this plant, and the resulting medicinal raw materials are dried in the shade under canopies. It is recommended to dig up the roots in the autumn, starting from September and ending in October.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of tannins of the pyrocatechol group, essential oil, flavonoids, sterols, ascorbic acid, resin, iron, copper, zinc, vanadium, zirconium, silver, titanium, manganese, chromium, nickel, saponin, agrimonoside and ellagic acid in this plant.

As for traditional medicine, here this plant is quite widespread. Here, common agrimony is used as a choleretic, astringent, gastric, tonic, hemostatic and diuretic.

For rheumatism, gonorrhea, scrofulous rash, liver diseases, diarrhea, gastric diseases, cholelithiasis, gallbladder diseases, it is recommended to use an infusion prepared from the herb of this plant. In addition, for such diseases, tea based on this plant with honey should also be used: such healing agents can also be used as diuretics.

Externally, an infusion based on the herb agrimony is used for inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary tract and hemorrhoids in the form of rinses. This healing agent is also used for washing bedsores, wounds, ulcers and boils. In the form of rinses, this medicine based on agrimony is indicated for use for inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx and sore throat, as well as for irrigating the nasal cavity during a runny nose; in the form of baths, this remedy is used for various skin diseases.

For constipation, you should use a decoction based on the herb agrimony with honey; in addition, this remedy is used for intestinal atony, diseases of the spleen, gall bladder and liver.
