Persian Cyclamen belongs to the primrose family, which is called Primulaceae.

Growing Persian Cyclamen

To ensure optimal growth, the plant should be provided with partial shade. It’s worth noting that the plant doesn’t require any watering during the summer. However, humidity should be maintained at a high level. This plant is a bulbous plant.

It’s worth noting that this plant is often found in various common areas, such as hallways and offices, as well as in greenhouses and various winter gardens. This plant is also quite popular for growing indoors. As for the maximum size in cultivation, the plant can reach approximately fifteen to forty centimeters: this height is calculated based on the flower stalks.

Although Persian cyclamen is a relatively low-maintenance plant, it will require regular repotting. Repotting should be performed immediately after the dormant period ends and new leaves begin to grow. Choose standard-sized pots for repotting.

For favorable growth, the following soil mixture is recommended: one part humus, peat, and sand, and three parts leaf mold. The soil pH should be slightly acidic. It is worth noting that stagnant water in the soil can have a very negative impact on the development of Persian cyclamen. It is worth noting that to ensure a longer flowering period for this plant, a constant temperature of approximately fifteen degrees Celsius is required. If the soil is excessively wet, the Persian cyclamen tuber may rot. In this case, the only option is to replace the plant with a new one.

Throughout the dormant period, this plant requires a temperature between twelve and fifteen degrees Celsius. During this period, it is recommended to water the plant occasionally. The dormant period begins around April and ends in September.

Persian cyclamen can be propagated either by sowing seeds or by cutting tubers.

During the summer, this plant requires a dormant period, during which the plant should be kept at a fairly cool temperature. During this period, it should be watered not only occasionally but also with very small amounts of water. For watering, acidified water should be used, also at a temperature of around twelve to fifteen degrees Celsius. It is noteworthy that there is no need to mist the leaves of Persian cyclamen.

Not only the flowers, but also the leaves of this plant are decorative. The leaves are rounded and kidney-shaped, and their color is green, with a fairly light pattern, with a reddish underside. Persian cyclamen blooms in autumn and winter. The flowers themselves can come in a variety of colors: white, purple, crimson, red, or even lilac. These flowers are approximately five to eight centimeters long. Persian cyclamen flowers have gracefully recurved petals.
