The leaves of the forked iris are collected in a fan shape in the lower half of the stem, their width is only slightly more than a centimeter. The lower leaves of this plant can often be crescent-shaped. The inflorescence contains about three to five flowers, the pedicels are cylindrical, they are endowed with a pronounced articulation, which will be located under the ovary. The perianth tube is very short and will not be longer than two millimeters. The outer leaves of the forked iris are endowed with a horizontally located plate, which will gradually turn into a claw. Such a claw will be located at an angle of sixty degrees. The plate will be painted in brown tones, it is endowed with a few brownish-purple spots. The marigold of this plant is colored yellow-brown along the edges, and in the middle there will be a purple spot on a white background. The inner leaves of the perianth will be shorter than the outer ones, they are directed upward at an angle of sixty degrees. The leaf blade is oblong-rounded in shape, and the nail is grooved. The leaves are painted in gray tones with purple stripes, and there are also brown-purple spots on the claw. The columns of the forked iris are almost oval in shape, their middle stripe is endowed with an admixture of purple color, while the columns themselves are colorless and almost transparent. The style lobes are narrow and linear, they are relatively long, and the stigma is endowed with two prominent teeth. The ovary of the forked iris is cylindrical in shape; after flowering, such an ovary will rot only if fertilization and pollination do not occur. The fruit of the forked iris is an oblong capsule, up to four centimeters long.

This plant blooms from August to September.

Description of the medicinal properties of forked iris

Iris fork is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the above-ground part of the plant and its root. As for traditional medicine, remedies based on this plant have become quite widespread.

A decoction prepared from one and a half to three grams of herb or root is recommended for use for inflammation and tumors of the throat, hepatitis, tumors in the liver, inflammation of the tonsils, mastitis and stomach pain.

The grass and underground organs of this plant contain coumarins and saponins, as well as alkaloids and cardiac glycosides. As for the traditional medicine of Transbaikalia, here the rhizomes of this plant are used as a fairly effective analgesic for toothache. In Transbaikalia medicine, a decoction of rhizomes is taken during childbirth as both an anesthetic and an obstetric aid. Also, the valuable healing properties of forked iris have become widespread in Tibetan medicine: here the rhizomes of this plant are used both as a very strong laxative and as a general tonic for anemia.
