Mullein

Mullein

mullein is a biennial plant that reaches a height of more than 2 m. It also grows like verbascum. royal stick.

It is distinguished not only by its decorative properties, but also by its medicinal properties. It also attracts attention with its slow flowering.

Mullein is an unpretentious plant, suitable for growing even in the poorest soils. It is best to grow only in well-drained soils, in sunny areas. It doesn’t lack in fertilizing; even without fertilizers, mullein is quite pleasing with flowering. Water sparingly in hot and extremely dry conditions. Mullein is drought-resistant, therefore it does not suffer from frequent watering.

After flowering, the stems are trimmed. Does not seek shelter for the winter.

Reproduction

Mullein is planted with grains, which are sown in autumn or spring. Preferably increases by self-sowing. The grains are placed in the ground, in pre-prepared beds, or immediately in the same area. The grain sizes are so small that they are simply placed according to the surface of the earth and sprinkled on top with a layer of soil (before 1 cm).

The emerging seedlings are thinned out, keeping the plants at a distance of almost 15 cm. In autumn, usually in September, the grown plants are transplanted to the same area. The transplant is performed together with an earthen clod. Plants are planted at a distance of 40-50 cm.

Propagation is allowed by cuttings or dividing the bush.

Propagation by cuttings is carried out in the fall. For this purpose, root cuttings almost 5 cm long are taken, which are cut through the mother plant. The cuttings are planted in pots in a vertical position, with the top not buried. Pots with cuttings are fed in a cold compartment before spring.

The division of the bush is carried out in the fall.
