Description of the medicinal properties of patrinia average

Patrinia average is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the rhizomes and roots of this plant for medicinal purposes. Such raw materials should be harvested during the second half of the summer season and autumn.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of saponins and alkaloids in the roots and rhizomes, and from the sum of saponins an individual saponin was isolated, which is called patrinoside D. This substance is crystalline and colorless, it is endowed with a rather bitter taste and will be highly soluble in water, ethyl and methyl alcohol, but will not dissolve in acetone, chloroform, benzene and air. This plant also contains sugars, organic acids, tannins, patrizide and essential oil. The essential oil of Patrinia Sibirica is a quickly crystallizing mass, which is endowed with a burning taste and an unpleasant odor.

Thanks to the presence of saponins, this plant will be endowed with very effective sedative properties. It should be noted that a tincture prepared from the roots and rhizomes of this plant will be very similar in its pharmacological effects to a tincture based on valerian officinalis, while the effect of this plant is twice as great as that of valerian. For cardioneurosis, insomnia and neurotic conditions, it is recommended to use an alcohol tincture based on this plant, approximately fifteen to twenty drops. As for traditional medicine, here patrinia average has become quite widespread. Here this plant is used for scrofula, jaundice, pulmonary tuberculosis and gastroenteritis. In addition, Tibetan and Mongolian medicine uses patrinia average as a very effective antitoxic and wound healing agent. This plant is also used as a pain reliever for liver and kidney colic.
