Mountain gorichnik is one of the plants of the family called Umbellaceae; in Latin the name of this plant will be as follows: Peucedanum oreoselinum L.

As for the name of the mountain gorychnik family itself, in Latin it will be: Apiaceae Lindl.

Description of the mountain gorichnik

Mountain gorichnik is a perennial herbaceous plant whose height is about thirty to one hundred centimeters. The root of this plant is spindle-shaped, its thickness varies between six and ten centimeters, while the stem will be rounded and straight, as well as finely grooved, in the lower part it is bare, slightly branched and softly pubescent. The basal leaves will be thick and triangular in outline, and slightly shiny on the upper side, while being lighter underneath. The length of such basal leaves will be about thirty to forty centimeters, and their width is fifteen centimeters. Such leaves can be either thrice-pinnately dissected or double-pinnately dissected. It is noteworthy that the uppermost foxes of the mountain gorychnik are less dissected; they are sessile on a slightly swollen vagina. Umbrellas are endowed with eleven to twenty-five thin rays, which reach almost the same length of five centimeters; such rays can also be smooth or rough on the inside. These rays will be ten to fifteen centimeters in diameter, the petals can be either white or reddish in color. The petals are almost round, their length and width are equal to one millimeter. The fruit is broadly elliptical, almost round, its width will be four to seven millimeters, while its length will be about five to eight millimeters.

Flowering of mountain gorychnik occurs during the period from July to August. Under natural conditions, this plant can be found in the European part of Russia, Kavaz, Moldova, as well as in Ukraine: in the Dnieper region and in the Carpathians. For growth, this plant prefers bushes, forest edges, as well as pine and pine-oak forests.

Description of the medicinal properties of mountain gorichnik

Mountain gorichnik is endowed with very valuable healing properties, and it is recommended to use the leaves, roots and grass of this plant for medicinal purposes. The concept of grass includes the flowers, stems and leaves of the mountain gorychnik.

The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content in the roots of this plant of essential oil, falcarindiol, the terpenoid peucelinene diol, the following coumarins: columbianetin isovalerate, oroselol, atamantine, isopimpinellin and imperatorin, and in addition also fatty acids: stearic, linoleic, oleic, linolenic, myristic and palmitic. As for the aerial part of the mountain gorychnik, flavonoids are found here, and an essential oil was found in the stems, which includes gamma-terpinene, p-cymene, alpha-pinene and limonene.

The leaves of the mountain gorychnik contain isorhamnetin, rutin, quercetin and essential oil, while the inflorescences contain essential oil and the flowers contain quercetin and kaempferol. At the same time, the fruits of the mountain gorichnik contain fatty oil and essential oil, as well as the following flavonoids: glycosides of kaempferol, isorhamnetin and zwercetin. The plant is endowed with antispasmodic, tonic, choleretic, and diuretic effects. It should be noted that traditional medicine recommends the use of a decoction of the roots of this plant for edema of various origins. As a diuretic, it is recommended to prepare the following decoction based on this plant: take a glass of water for ten grams of crushed dry roots of the mountain gorychnik, boil this mixture for four minutes, and then leave it to infuse for two hours. This remedy is taken half a glass three times a day.
